The chairman of Sarratt Football Club has paid tribute to his 45-year-old son who passed away last week.

Anthony Warner grew up in Sarratt and was known to his friends as Jack from his days at college.

Following a traumatic brain injury he sustained in a gymnasium accident in Dubai in October 2012, Mr Warner was flown back to London the following month and received treatment at a number of hospitals in the capital.

The Headstrong Jack Warner Rehabilitation Trust was launched in May 2013 to raise money for his treatment, which included intensive neurological and physical rehabilitation, specialist equipment and support and transitional rehabilitation.

After months of fundraising and sponsored community events in which friends and family tried to raise money for his treatment, Mr Warner died at Kingston Hospital on Tuesday, March 18 at 6am.

His father, Michael Warner, said he would like to thank "all those wonderful people" who raised money for the trust, which allowed his son to have some extras during his rehabilitation.

Mr Warner, who is chairman of Sarratt Football Club, said his son used to play for the team before managing the club himself when they won the Herts County League reserve division one.

A minute’s silence was held before the club's game on Saturday.

Mr Warner grew up in Church Lane, in Sarratt and went to St Joan of Arc Catholic School, in Rickmansworth.

He started a career in the construction industry and later became a project manager who worked on The British Library, in London, The GlaxoSmithKline Chemical development in Stevenage and the new terminal at Gatwick Airport.

He later moved on to study law at Westminster University and secured a position with Hill International in Dubai.

Looking back at his son’s life, Mr Warner said: "This was the Ant we loved and will miss every day.

"The support from neighbours, friends and relatives has been much appreciated."

Mr Warner’s funeral will take place at Our Lady Mother of The Saviour Catholic Church, in Dunny Lane, in Chipperfield on April 3 at 11.00am.

This will be followed by the burial at Holy Cross Church Yard Sarratt. His memory will be celebrated at The Boot, in Sarratt Green.
