Students in Bushey have raised £600 after an inspirational talk from Claire Lomas this week.

Claire Lomas, a British campaigner, fundraiser and former event rider, visited Queens' school in Aldenham Road on Wednesday.

In May 2007 Mrs Lomas became paralysed from the chest down in a horse riding accident.

In 2012 she became the first paralysed person to walk the London Marathon. She completed the marathon in 17 days wearing a pioneering robotic suit.

She was also asked to light the Paralympic cauldron in Trafalgar Square in 2012.

Pupils at Queens’ have raised over £600 to go towards Mrs Lomas’s charity Nicholls Spinal Research Foundation.

Pritam Vekaria at Queens’ said: "Personally we feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to listen to her and the way she dealt with all that was thrown at her and used this to drive her life forward in such a positive way.

"A truly remarkable women who inspired us and we hope we can help raise even more money in the future for Nicholls Spinal Research Foundation.

"The pupils said they were inspired and amazed at her positive attitude."
