A team of 12 coaches from Fullerians Rugby Club are in training to take on the Three Peaks Challenge and raise money for charity.

They will make their attempt in mid June, starting with Snowdon, then Scarfel Pike and finally Ben Nevis - the highest three peaks in England, Scotland and Wales.

The total distance they will cover is around 27 miles, most of which will be vertical, with an estimated climbing time of 14 hours.

To make things just a little harder they will be carrying the Saracens mascot, Sarrie the camel, to the top of each peak for a photograph.

Cash raised by the event will be split between the Fullerians new clubhouse appeal and Peace Hospice Care and they hope to raise in excess of £10,000.

They have already collected £4,000 but have a number of fundraising events coming up, including at the Fullerians beer festival, the club’s spring ball on Saturday, May 17, and a spring fair on Sunday, May 11.

The team consists of Martin Rennoldson, Kevin Brind, Rob Marsh, Paul Edwards, Grant Lovick, Nick Heley, Gary Dollard, James Turnbull, Mark Ellis, Simon Holden, Ashley Walsh and Giff Harrison and they have four support drivers, Gary wall, Pete Samuel, Paul Mortham and Brian Evans.

Training started in January with weekly cardio sessions at Windsors Gym in watford, as the weather has improved they have started training every other weekend on Ivinghoe Beacon and the team are planning two practice walks up Kinder Scout and Bleaklow, the two highest peaks in the Peak District.

They have been supported by a number of local businesses with donations of food, training facilities, clothing, transport and raffle prizes from Ash Logistics, Windsors Gym, O'Neils, Skogstad, Waitrose, Asda, Arco and K. Brind Physiotherapy and liquid refreshments from Wells and Young Brewery.

Anyone wanting to support the team, either by personal or corporate sponsorship, should contact Martin Rennoldson on martin.rennoldson@btinternet.com.
