A wager between two councillors over the William Penn Leisure Centre fiasco has led to a Watford Peace Hospice receiving £1,000.
Peace Hospice Care was the beneficiary of the cheque after Three Rivers councillor, Tony Barton, bet the previous chairman of the district council, Chris Whatley-Smith, that the total cost of the project would exceed £10 million.
Conservative representative for Sarratt, Councillor Barton, presented the cheque to current chairman of the Liberal Democrat-run council, Les Mead.
Councillor Barton said: "I was obviously disappointed to lose the bet but pleased that such a deserving charity has benefited. I never like losing a wager but in this instance losing £1,000 was a bit easier to take knowing that it was going to Peace Hospice Care."
