The community interest company Farming for All has been named a finalist in the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards 2014.

Shortlisted in the Social Enterprise of the Year category, the award looks to highlight the social enterprise or charity that has demonstrated "outstanding achievement in its field".

Farming for All offers a range of activities, including horticulture, forestry and animal care , designed to create positive experiences within a safe, nurturing environment.

It runs a number of projects in Hertfordshire and London, including Horticulture for Health, a specially designed allotment site in Watford suitable for wheelchair users and those with physical or sensory disabilities.

The team also regularly teach families about horticulture at Westfield Children’s Centre and works with children who have been excluded from mainstream education at Chessbrook Education Support Centre.

Another local initiative is the Dig Deep Community Garden Project, run in conjunction with charity ASCEND in South Oxhey.

The project is regenerating a derelict allotment site and is open to people with a wide range of abilities.

Volunteers receive training in horticulture as well as taking part in activities such as clay pizza oven building, deck building, growing wheat and learning how to cook with allotment produce.

The site also offers short courses and participants can study for a qualification in Practical Horticulture Skills.

Farming For All founder, Jude Allen, said: "We’re thrilled to be announced as a finalist in the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards. It is fantastic recognition for the whole team and their passion and dedication.

"Through our projects, we aim to impact positively on the wellbeing of individuals who may encounter social or educational exclusion due to a disability, acquired injury, learning disability or other mental health issues.

"We have seen how projects of this nature can change lives and help people to re-engage with both society and themselves. Cultivating confidence is what we do best."

The award winners will be announced at a gala dinner, being held on Thursday, May 15 in Hatfield.
