A personal trainer at Watford Leisure Centre Woodside has been shortlisted for an ukactive & Matrix Flame Award in recognition of his hard work and commitment.

Vladimir Fistric was nominated for the Spirit of Flame Unsung Hero Award - which celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to help get more people, more active, more often - by the Everyone Active team at the centre where he is an employee.

Vlad, 40, joined Watford Leisure Centre Woodside in 2008 and has since helped people of all ages and abilities to achieve their health and fitness goals including a totally despondent, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome sufferer, and an 85 year old member who could barely achieve five minutes of activity when he first joined the centre.

In addition, Vlad trained aspiring bodybuilder Lara Gaze, 40, from Watford, when she broke her collarbone in an accident.

Lara describes Vlad as "instrumental in getting me focused again. He helped me turn my negative thoughts into positive ones and think about new ways of training".

Everyone Active Health and Fitness Manager Janine Rodgers said: "Vlad has an incredible ability to adjust seamlessly to work with clients of all ages and abilities from the very young to his eldest client, who is 85 years old.

"He goes out of his way to always help and encourage our members and ensures that his wisdom and magic is spread throughout our club of 3,500 members. We are so proud of him and happy he is being acknowledged for his work."

The ukactive & Matrix Flame Awards 2014 are one of the most highly coveted awards in the health and fitness sector, celebrating the achievements of operators, suppliers and individuals.

Vlad will hear if he has won the award at a "Ball of Fire" ceremony in London on Wednesday, July 2.

Regarding his nomination, Vlad said: "I’m delighted to be shortlisted for the award - it’s a huge achievement and honor.

"I suspect that I will have some stiff competition but I hope the judges will recognise my work within the local community."
