Plans have been submitted for the Watford health campus, which include up to 750 new homes, a new hotel and space for hospital buildings.

Watford Council and developer Kier put the proposals forward for planning process this week, giving a more detailed look at the project.

The proposals, which are submitted for outline permission, earmark space for new hospital development, with healthcare accommodation, and plan to build 681 new homes, a hotel, offices, retail outlets, and leisure facilities.

The application seeks to allocate land for the expansion of Laurance Haines Primary School, in Vicarage Road.

Proposals submitted for the redevelopment of Farm Terrace allotment land show it would used for up 69 homes, community space, car parking, the access road, and the new hospital buildings.

Uncertainty still hangs over the use of the allotment land as plot holders are in the process of mounting a legal challenge to the Government’s permission for it to be used in the scheme.

Today, developers Kier said that the health campus had been designed to "create a first class vision" for West Watford.

Phil Woods, from Kier Project Investments Limited, a partner in the Watford health campus Partnership LLP, said: "The Watford health campus partners are delighted to have submitted the planning applications.

"The masterplan vision reflects concepts and ideas received from stakeholders, the public and partners, since the project was conceived over ten years ago. The project team has worked hard to meet the partners' ambitions for the scheme and create a first class vision for the area.

"There has been considerable support shown for the Watford health campus for many years and we firmly believe West Watford will benefit considerably from the scheme".

The latest development comes after the plans for a new access road to the hospital from Dalton Way were agreed in December. Work on the new road is due to start towards the end of this year and will take around 18 months to complete.
