Top of the World by the Carpenters and Perhaps Love by John Denver were the winning songs for The Chiltern Ladies Choir which won the Watford Music Festival.

The choir based in Hemel Hempstead doesn’t normally enter competitions, they are more used to singing at Care Homes and charity events.

Choir leader Marjorie Metcalfe said: "It took many months of hard work and commitment from everyone to perfect our songs. It took many months of hard work and commitment from everyone to perfect our songs it has been fun but it has only been possible with the help of Jeanette Ager, an inspiring singing teacher from Berkhamsted.

"It has been very special for us working with Jeanette, who sings at the Royal Opera Covent Garden."

The adjudicator at the Festival, Joy Hill who is a choral conductor and director of choirs at the Royal College of Music said the performance was presented with "elegance and sparkle in their eyes".
