World War One poppies to be planted across Bushey
Flanders poppies seeds are being planted all over Bushey to commemorate World War One.
The seeds will be planted in gardens, allotments, in school grounds, in the garden of St Andrew’s Church, Bushey Heath and in front of the graves of the servicemen in the churchyard of St James’ parish church.
The poppies will bloom for the first time in August 2014, when the Bushey commemoration project holds its exhibition, ‘Bushey during the Great War: A Village Remembers’.
In the garden of Reveley Lodge in Bushey Heath Nicholas Boyes, the professional gardener, has planted seeds specifically in memory of two young men who died for their country.
One lived at Reveley Lodge and the other in one of the Reveley Cottages next door. Their stories can be read in an article on the Bushey First World War Commemoration website.
