Pensioners donated £1,700 to Peace Hospice Care when their long term social group disbanded.
Formed in the 1980s for the former employees of the world famous Scammell Lorries Ltd, the Monday pensioners’ club provided opportunities for friendship for many local people.
But when numbers started to dwindle and the club made a decision to close, the committee opted to give their remaining funds to Peace Hospice Care.
A spokesman for the club said: "We were keen to support a local charity and couldn’t think of a better choice than Peace Hospice Care. The hospice has provided vital services to some of our members and it’s comforting to know that they’re there to help."
Peace Hospice Care Community Fundraising Manager , Gill Crowson, said: "‘For many years Scammell’s was such an integral part of our community and we are so grateful to the members of their club for choosing to support Peace Hospice Care.
"Their contribution will help us to continue providing care to local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families."
