Watford FC fans were escorted to Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road Stadium on Monday because "risk supporters" had been identified and the police commander believed "disorder may occur between rival supporters".
Hornets fans were accompanied by police officers between Shepherds Bush tube station and the stadium before and after the game with QPR.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said there were no arrests of Watford supporters at the game, while five QPR fans were detained. However, a Hertfordshire Constabulary Twitter feed claimed one Hornets fan had been arrested.
He said: "Due to problems between both sets of supporters at the previous game in Watford, it was believed that risk supporters may attempt to engage in disorder if police resources were not deployed to look after them.
"The police resources deployed to this fixture were not excessive and were proportionate to the threat/risk of the operation. This was assessed as a medium risk fixture; therefore the number of resources reflected the risk."
