Thirty affordable new homes are to be built in West Watford.

Watford Community Housing Trust has agreed to provide 31 homes for affordable and social rent as part of a new housing development at Rembrandt House.

Each of the new homes will have at least one dedicated parking space and there will be 15 additional visitor spaces.

Tina Barnard, chief executive of Watford Community Housing Trust, said: "We are excited to be part of this development.

"It will not only provide more affordable homes for the people who desperately need them, but will also restore Rembrandt House to give this important local landmark a new lease of life."

The new venture will be the trust’s third development in West Watford.

It completed 16 new homes in Croxley View earlier this year, and has been granted planning permission for nine flats in Moor View off Vicarage Road.

The trust has a target of building 500 new homes in Watford and Three Rivers by 2017.

The development at Rembrandt House is being led by Shanly Homes.

It will see a total of 107 homes built on part of the former industrial site, while the historic Rembrandt House building will be refurbished for business use.

Amer Alkhalil, managing director of Shanly Homes for North London, said: "The development of Rembrandt House will provide much-needed homes for local people across a mix of tenures and we look forward to working with Watford Community Housing Trust in the delivery of this project."
