Supermarket staff and members from a waterways charity are set to join forces this week to clear up Rickmansworth Canal towpath.

The Marks and Spencer Big Beach Clean-up event is taking place tomorrow between 10.30am and 2pm.

Staff from the store and volunteers from the Canal and River Trust will be meeting to litter pick and clean the towpath.

More than 1,000 employees and volunteers will be heading down to their local canal bank to support the waterways during the Marks and Spencer Big Beach Clean-ups, which are taking place across the country between April 24 and April 30.

Richard Parry, chief executive at the Canal and River Trust, said: "Our canals are a two-hundred year-old national treasure that are enjoyed by millions of people each year. They need looking after, and litter and debris can be a real problem, polluting water, restricting use of the canals and towpaths, and harming wildlife.

"That’s why we’re delighted to be joining forces again with Marks and Spencer and all the volunteers who take part in the Big Beach Clean-up."
