Pupils at a school in Bushey were recently visited by a couple who lived through the war, to hear about their family’s experience.
The year six pupils at St Margaret’s School were visited by Mr and Mrs Murphy, who are uncle and aunt to pupil Amelie, who came in to talk about their family experiences during the Second World War.
Mrs Murphy shared memories of her time as a young child in the country with no electricity or even an indoor bathroom, and talked about Amelie’s great, great uncle, who at the age of 23 held a number of important jobs in the RAF, including being a navigator in a Lancaster Bomber, a role for which he was decorated.
Mrs Claire Aisthorpe, head teacher of the school, said: "It was a real pleasure to hear from such interesting guests and to see the wide range of artefacts they brought in."
