A school in Bushey was visited by a paralympian discus thrower this week to talk about overcoming adversity and achieving goals.

Derek Derenalagi was at Queens’ School in Aldenham road on Tuesday.

Mr Derenalagi lost both his legs in Afghanistan after he and his colleagues went over a mine in their Land Rover.

Mr Derenalagi was then selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in the discuss event.

Katja Nilssontia, who organized the talk, said: "Derek is such a down to earth guy who is always looking of ways to inspire young people. It was brilliant having him at Queens’.

"He inspired us to follow our dreams as he did and when someone tells you that you’re not good enough to carry on. Even though he was a double amputee he still regarded himself as being normal. He was a true inspiration."
