Hertfordshire Health Walks have teamed up with Watford Community Housing Trust’s Nifty (over) 50 programme to bring four free taster health walks.

The first walk is on Friday, May 23, sets off from Garston Medical Centre near The Dome roundabout.

Participants will be walking to Leavesden Green Community Centre, having a break for refreshments and then walking back to the start.

It is 30 minutes walk each way and starts at 10am.

Future walks will be taking place on Tuesday, June 10, from Harebreaks Community Centre, Monday, July 14, from Meriden Community Centre and a longer 90 minute walk on Sunday, August 10, from the Holywell Community Centre.

The Hertfordshire Health Walks are co-ordinated by the Countryside Management Service (CMS) and led by trained volunteers.

There are more than 40 weekly walks across the county and if these taster walks are popular they’d like to recruit some volunteers to lead regular walks in Watford.

The CMS would like to hear from you if you enjoy being outside, walking and chatting with likeminded people.

Whether you have as little as one hour a month, or one hour per week to spare, you could help the health walks take off as a regular part of the Nifty 50 programme.

You don’t need to be over 50 or fit to volunteer as the walks are open to all and graded from ‘first steps’, a 20 minute stroll, up to 90 minute rambles.
