The four candidates battling to be Watford’s elected mayor will be debating the key issues at a hustings next week.

The public debate is due to be hosted at St Thomas’ Church, in Langley Road, on Monday.

Voters in Watford are due to go to the polls next Thursday, May 22, to decide who will hold the powerful role for the next four years.

The current Liberal Democrat mayor, Dorothy Thornhill, is seeking her fourth term in the office and is being challenged Jagtar Singh Dhindsa, from Labour; Linda Topping, a Conservative and UKIP’s Phil Cox.

The hustings is being organised by the Christians Across Watford group, which is a collective of churches, Christian charities, agencies and businesses, and is open to the public.

Tim Roberts, moderator of Christians Across Watford, said: "People around the world are fighting for the right to vote, a privilege we enjoy and must make the most of. By holding these forums we will help Watford residents to make up their mind about who to vote for, understanding that it does matter who serves as Watford’s Mayor."

The Mayoral Forum will talk place between 8pm and 9.45pm. Questions to the candidates can be submitted on the night, or in advance, by visiting www.christiansacrosswatford.org.
