The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards at West Herts College following a review in February.

A team of QAA reviewers visited the college in Hempstead Road, Watford, and judged that its academic standards, the quality of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of its information about learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.

The enhancement of learning opportunities at West Herts was commended by the review team meaning that, in this area, the college was deemed to have exceeded UK expectations.

Principal Gill Worgan said: "At West Herts College we are very proud of our HE provision and, following the feedback from QAA, have even greater reason to be.

"This is a new quality assurance framework so is the first time the college’s HE provision has been evaluated against it. The review was a thorough and robust process, examining all aspects of HE, providing staff and students with an opportunity to further enhance our HE offering.

"There were some very pleasing highlights within the report - particularly QAA’s feedback on the way we support our students, enhance their learning opportunities and give them a voice. We always encourage conversation with our students and, in recent years, have made several changes as a result of their feedback."

The review identified a number of examples of good practice including the college's comprehensive approach to facilitating students' transitions to higher education and the support it provides to enable students to achieve their academic, personal and professional potential.

The review also made some recommendations for improvements including the need to ensure central oversight of external examiner reports and that the reports, and details of their authors, are accessible to students.

A successful review means that West Herts College can display the QAA Quality Mark.
