Armed police raided a house in Oxhey Village after a false was raised at the weekend.

Officers stormed the address in Field Road on Sunday evening after reports a woman had been assaulted with a knife.

An armed policing unit attended and emergency service vehicles blocked the street for approximately half an hour shortly after 8pm.

Neighbour James McQuaid said the officers were armed with rifles and carrying bullet proof shields.

However, when police arrived they found no-one had been injured and no offence had occurred in the property.

Mr McQuaid was shocked to see armed police patrolling the street outside his window during the evening raid.

The 33-year-old Field Road resident said: "I noticed a few armed police officers outside.

"They had black rifles and some were carrying those big plastic shields.

"There were more police cars blocking off the street and five or six officers outside the house.

"The police knocked a couple of the doors opposite the house.

"I’ve lived on and off on this street for 30 years, this doesn’t usually happen there."

Sarah Spence, spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary, said a firearms unit attended shortly after 8pm on Sunday, May 25, as is standard practice when assaults with weapons are reported.

She said enquires had been carried out, which revealed "no offence had occurred".

She said: "We were called at 8.05pm on Sunday evening to an address in Field Road to reports that a female had been assaulted.

"It had been reported that a female had been assaulted with a knife.

"Some firearms units attended for the safety of officers and as a precautionary measure in that instance.

"Approximately six police cars were sent to the scene.

"We have been in attendance and carried out enquiries. No offences had occurred.

"We located the female safe and well in London. Nobody was injured."
