A man has died in hospital after being allegedly assaulted at a Watford golf club.

Police and paramedics raced to West Herts Golf Club, in Cassiobury Park, following reports a man was seriously injured shortly before 11pm on Saturday.

The 64-year-old was found in the car park of the club with head injuries and taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in London.

He was in critical condition for two days and died this morning.

East of England Ambulance Service Richard Dunne said: "We were called at 10.46pm. Two ambulances attended to the man in his 60s.

"A police officer was on scene carrying out CPR.

"Crews worked to stabilise the man before he was taken by road ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

"The patient was in a critical condition. He had suffered head injuries.

"We were on scene for about 40 minutes and got to hospital at 12.20am on Sunday, where the patient went to the accident and emergency department."

Herts Constabulary confirmed the victim died in hospital with his family members present at his bedside.

The 51-year-old man from Redbourn has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident. He has been released on police bail until August 17, while officers continue to investigate.
