A man who died in hospital yesterday after an alleged assault at a Watford golf club has been named as Terry Hutchinson.

The 64-year-old was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, London, in a critical condition following the incident in the car park of the club, in Cassiobury Park, on Saturday night.

He was in hospital for two days before he died with his family present at his bedside.

Today the club offered its condolences to Mr Hutchinson’s family following the tragedy.

Mr Hutchinson had been a member of the golf club for 10 years from 1999 to 2009.

Chairman of the club, David Shelley, said a wedding reception had been going on at the club at the time Mr Hutchinson was injured.

He said: "On behalf of all members we would like to express our sympathy to the family of Mr Hutchinson for their very sad and untimely loss and also to the families hosting and guests attending the wedding reception for the way in which a very special day for them came to such a tragic end."

A 51-year-old man from Redbourn has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

He has been released on police bail until August 17, while officers continue to investigate.
