Record numbers of villagers visited Kings Langley Fire Station for its annual yesterday.

Watch commander Matt Day said nearly 500 people attended the open day at Kings Langley Fire Station, Common Lane on Wednesday May 28.

Organisers were delighted with how the event went, especially as it was deliberately held during half term so that more children could attend.

Matt said: "It was really good. It could not have been better. It was the best attendance we have ever had."

"The community seemed to love it. It is really good to raise awareness that there is a retained fire station in the community. They all seemed to get involved and enjoy themselves."

"We put these things on to raise attention and advertise the free fire safety checks that we are doing."

Children had the opportunity to dress-up in fire gear, use hoses to spray miniature houses and take part in a smoke detector hunt along Kings Langley High Street.

Watford Observer:

The fire engine was present and proved popular with the children as they climbed on to the back of the vehicle.

Matt described the appearance of The Aerial Ladder Platform, which could see across Kings Langley, as a "highlight" of the day.

He said: "The community in Kings Langley would not know how high it goes above Kings Langley and it seemed to draw people in from the high street."

He added: "It is good to get involved with the community."
