A man from Abbots Langley completed a 145 mile run without stopping to raise money for charity.

Jay MacDonald from Mallard Road completed the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Race on Saturday, May 24 and raised more than £3500 for the Leukaemia and Blood Disease Research Appeal.

Mr MacDonald, who is a member of Watford Harriers joined 109 runners who were attempting to run non-stop from the centre of Birmingham to Little Venice in London.

He completed the race in 33 hours and 30 minutes, finishing in 15 place.

Jay said: "The event was one of the toughest challenges I have undertaken and it was a real test of my physical and mental resolve.

"There was heavy rain all day on Saturday and I really had to dig deep especially throughout the night section. Despite a foot injury I sustained overnight, I managed to stay strong and was very pleased with my finish.

"I am very proud that my challenge has raised a substantial amount of money for the charity which will enable further research into leukaemia, cancer and other blood diseases."
