A primary school in Bushey recently celebrated ‘One World Week’, with the aim to learn more about different faith and cultures.

Pupils at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School discussed climate change and how to protect the wide diversity of animals and plants on the planet. They also thought about being a global citizen and how to deal fairly with one another.

The school, which is on Merryhill Road, were also involved in visiting a Hindu temple and having someone from the Hindu temple conduct workshops in the school hall with children from nursery to year six.

Year six children then showed the school ‘Saving Our World’, an educational drama-presentation on the environment with a ‘stewardship’ theme.

One World Week aims to provide an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to come together to learn about global justice, to spread that learning and to use it to take action for justice locally and globally.

Originally oriented towards the Christian churches of the UK, it has now broadened in scope to include people of all backgrounds.

On Friday all the classes rotated around the school to carry different activities with different teachers.

Carolyn Hatch, headteacher at Sacred Heart, said: "The staff have worked incredibly hard to provide the children with a stimulating and inspirational week.

"The children have responded with excellent participation and behaviour and have furthered their understanding and knowledge about a range of faiths and cultures. The school is buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement."

The children are also fundraising and have completed a picture in different art media for their ‘Big Art Exhibition’.

Parents were invited to look at all the pictures around the school from nursery to year six and parents can purchase the art work with all proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
