Residents encouraged to help shape elections in Bushey

Watford Observer: Residents encouraged to help shape elections in Bushey Residents encouraged to help shape elections in Bushey

Hertsmere Borough Council is asking residents to take part in the consultation exercise that could change the election cycle in Hertsmere.

Currently the council hold ‘elections by thirds’ which means that elections are held each year for three successive years out of four.

Six wards have two councillors and will go to the polls twice over a four year period to elect one of the councillors for their ward. Nine wards have three councillors, so will vote in three consecutive years in a four year period.

The council is considering changing this current election cycle to ‘whole council elections’ which would mean that all seats on the council would be elected at the same time, once every four years.

If there is support for the whole council approach, then it would be introduced for May 2015 elections.
