A Sarratt youth football club recognised its young members at its annual awards ceremony at the weekend.

The Sarratt Rebels Youth Football Club held the event, accompanied by a barbecue, at King George V playing fields on Saturday afternoon.

Watford FC mascot, Harry the Hornet made a special guest appearance at the event as awards were handed out to the young players.

The young footballers train on Saturday mornings and compete in the West Herts Youth League and the Watford Friendly League on Sundays.

While all of the boys receive awards for their achievement over the 2013/14 season, particular recognition was given to a select few who particularly stood out in the group.

Awards were not necessarily awarded to the most skilful players, but to those who improved the most and who are most appreciated by their team mates for personality, commitment, endeavour and fortitude.

The Sarratt Rebels Youth Football Club, established in 1998 as an under eights aged team having broken away from Chipperfield Youth Football Club, has its home at the King George V playing fields.

The club now trains about 100 primary school boys, ranging from five to 11-year-olds.

The Sarratt Rebels takes boys of all abilities and is run entirely by volunteers.

Special awards this year included:

  • Under 10s: Parents' Player of the Season went to Harrison Hobbs and Managers Player of the Year went to Harrison Hobbs
  • Under 9s: Parents' Player of Season went to Adam Lowe and Most Improved Player went to Aiden Sheppard
  • Under 8s: Players' Player Awards went to Henry O'Brien in the Yellow Team and to James Carter in the Blacks team
  • Under 7s: Parents' Player of the Year went to Harry Foot and Cameron Dallas was awarded most improved player
