The rotary club in Watford handed out more than £7,000 to its charities to mark the end of the current rotary year.

Watford Rotary Club invited those receiving donations to a special cheese and wine evening at the Watford Town and Country Club on Wednesday when the presentations were made.

The biggest cheques went to local charities Peace Hospice Care, Keech Hospice Care, DRUM, Signpost and the Guideposts Trust. Smaller donations went to the Watford Blind Centre, Rethink Mental Illness, Mary’s Meals, Bushey Ambulance and the Barretts Oesophagus Campaign.

After the presentations were made, Peter Parry talked about the work of another excellent local charity, Remap, which engineers solutions to problems for disabled people.

Club President Sue Clark said: "After our year’s fundraising it was great to be able to bring together all these charities and make donations which will really help them with their work."
