Pupils at an independent prep school in Bushey were sent home early this afternoon after a gas leak closed the school.

Pupils and staff from St Hilda’s in High street were forced to leave the school and wait in Bushey Golf Country club until parents came to collect their children.

Headteacher Tracy Handford said the leak had not been in the building but evacuation took place as a precautionary measure.

The problem has now been fixed and school will open as normal tomorrow.
