A world-renowned musician has appeared in court accused of sexually abusing pupils at two schools including the Purcell School in Bushey.

Double-bassist Duncan McTier, 59, denies four counts of indecent assault against female pupils at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and Purcell, in Aldenham Road, in the 1980s and 1990s, Greater Manchester Police said.

At Manchester Crown Court on Friday, Mr McTier pleaded not guilty to all four charges against three women aged 17, 21, and 23 at the time.

Mr McTier, who now lives in Middlesex, was suspended from his current job teaching at the Royal Academy of Music in London after he was charged last month.

He has been released on bail and will face trial in Liverpool on November 11.
