An elderly woman was threatened by two burglars who broke into her South Oxhey home and stole her jewellery.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said the victim saw a man from her bedroom window ring the doorbell to her home in Prestwick Road, near Carpenders Park train station, at around 1pm on Monday.

As she did not recognise him the woman did not answer the door and went back to bed. However she was then woken by a second man who had broken into her home and then threatened her.

He was then joined by the first man and the pair stole a number of items including gold jewellery.

The first man is described as white, slim, and in his 20s. The second man is described as black, slim, and also in his 20s.

Assistant investigator Kevin Deudon said: "Thankfully the woman was not harmed in this incident but was understandably left shaken.

"I would like to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious in the area around the time of the incident. However small the detail may seem, it may greatly assist our investigation.

"This occurred during broad daylight so it’s possible other people may have been in the area. If you believe you saw a man knocking on doors prior to the incident or anyone else acting oddly please contact me immediately."

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Assistant Investigator Deudon via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference C3/14/671.
