Thousands of pounds was raised for Rickmansworth School at a ball to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The Scots Hill school raised more than £4,000 at the ball, which was held at Shendish Manor Hotel.

The money will go towards a new £40,000 modern foreign language laboratory and the school hopes that the new laboratory will provide an "interactive learning environment" that will "significantly enhance the learning environment for all students.

Guests received a three-course meal and a drinks reception before they had the opportunity to take part in a raffle and auction.

Items in the auction and raffle included a British cycling shirt signed by Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny, a diamond pendant necklace and a £1,000 road bike

Chris Hambleton, Assistant Headteacher at Rickmansworth School said: "We cannot thank all those who donated raffle and auction items enough, and a special thank to all those who made such generous bids.

"The generosity of our school community will make a big impact on our students education".

More than 180 people attended the event and attendees included parents, teachers, governors and ex-pupils.
