Plans to build 20 homes on ancient woodland in Watford are due to be decided this week.

Developer, Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, has submitted detailed proposals to develop the Rounton site, in Nascot Wood Road, after winning outline permission for the scheme last year.

The latest development comes after a long-running battle with residents in the area who are keen to preserve the woodland.

Watford Observer:

In 2012 a planning inspector rejected plans for a 45-home scheme on the site following vociferous objections from people living nearby.

Council planners have recommended the development control committee approve this smaller scheme when they meet on Thursday.

A report to the committee said the 2012 planning appeal had established that the woodland on the area qualified as ancient.

As such the trees have to be protected in the development.

Planners said the proposed semi-detached homes had a "tradition style" including gabled roofs and bay windows.
