A young woman has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with an allegation of rape in central Watford.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said the 19-year-old from London was in police custody following an investigation by officers from the Sexual Offences Investigation Team.

The arrest relates to an alleged rape in a park near St John’s Road between 2am and 4am on Saturday, December 28.

A man was initially questioned in connection with the original allegation but was released but no action is to be taken against him.

Officers said this followed a thorough investigation, which concluded that there is no evidence to suggest this man committed any offences.
