A prototype of what could be Watford’s own local radio station of the future attracted a great deal of interest when it was shown for the first time at the Royal Show, Cambridge, last week.
The company who built the station, Pye Ltd, have named Watford as a town capable of supporting its own station, which would provide programmes with a local flavour.
“Radio Watford”, if it comes about, would be owned and managed by local interests – for instance newspapers, businessmen or other local bodies – to beam programmes to a radius of 10 miles, he said.
Practically every sphere of activity in Watford would make broadcasting material and local education, religion, sport, politics, drama and music would benefit from the station, which would give them an outlet into their own community.
