A  new £115,000 3G floodlit artificial grass pitch has been installed off Little Oxhey Lane in South Oxhey ready for the football season and it will be officially open on Saturday, July 12, at a joint event with Watford Football Club.

The pitch, which is operated by Hertsmere Leisure at Sir James Altham Pool, has has been funded by Three Rivers District Council and Hertsmere Leisure.

The pitch also has changing facilities and showers for home and away teams’ officials and facilities for the disabled.

Watford Football Club Mascot Harry the Hornet will kick off the celebrations at 10am and Watford FC coaches will run a mix of mini matches for children as well as some fun football games until noon.

Manager Michael Nestorovic said "We are very pleased that this popular facility will now be looking its best because it is so useful for local sports teams and individuals to have a quality multi use games area pitch.

"Playing on the 3G surface is described as being the closest you can get to being on real grass. The area needs a good outdoor facility such as this."

The previous pitch, which was sand based, was worn and has been replaced with artificial grass that is infilled with silica sand rubber. The infill helps with the playing performance of the ball bounce, absorbing the players impact and speed of the game.
