Families whose teenage students have transport provided because of special educational needs and disabilities may start to be charged for the service.

Teenagers and parents are being asked for their views on travel arrangement for 16-18 year-old students ahead of possible changes to the service.

The consultation affects students in full-time education and training aged between 16 and 18 and aged up to 19 and beyond 19 if they are continuing on a course started before the age of 19, which also includes learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Hertfordshire County Council is running a drop in surgery at Watford Library this Thursday, July 10, between 10am and 1pm.

The consultation to review arrangements to provide school travel support to young people aged 16-18 is open until July 21.

Parents, carers, young people, schools and colleges of further education are being encouraged to respond to the consultation.

Five proposals are being put forward as part of the consultation, which are based on the council’s pledge to support families on low income who need most assistance, particularly those without an alternative funding source and those with special educational needs and disabilities.

One proposal is about seeking financial contributions from families whose 16-18 year olds have special educational needs and disabilities, where transport is provided.

For further information and to have your say, visit www.hertsdirect.org/consultations.

The consultation closes on July 21, 2014.

How much foreign aid is wasted?

How much do we pay to the EU every day?

Why are we cutting this first?
