More than £2,000 was raised to buy iPads for Stanborough Park Primary in Garston at the school's annual summer fete.

A further £90 raised to help the homeless in London.

Organiser, Veronica Montgomery, said: "I remember the annual fete being a very large event and wanted to recreate that event. It was a fantastic day and I saw people I hadn’t seen in over 20 years."

Bryan Watkins, previous headmaster of the primary school, was invited out of retirement in Wales to open the event.

Veronica, who is chair of the Home Schools Association, continued: "Mr Watkins was a familiar face in the area and a friend to many in the Stanborough Park community, I have many happy memories of him at the school and under his leadership the school was modernised with the introduction of many new initiatives."

Mr Watkins started the Home Schools Association, which raised funds to buy the school's first computers.

Now, 22 years on, the same initiatives have resulted in iPads to help with learning in the classroom.

Mrs Hanson, current headteacher of the primary school, said: "We strive to be innovative and provide our children with the best environment for learning. We are very excited about the introduction of iPads to our classrooms from September and have found many educational apps to create a fun learning experience for the children.

"We are very privileged to have such a beautiful park and were really pleased with turn out on the day, the amount we raised and the glorious weather."

Attractions included musical performances from Ekklesia, Bollywood dancing from Anita’s Dance Factory, a gymnastics display from Dolphina Gymnastics and a marching parade from Stanborough Pathfinders. There were bouncy castles, super slides and jousting for the children along with face painting and a traditional crockery smash.
