Police have released CCTV images of a masked attacker who threatened staff in a north Watford convenience store with an iron bar during a terrifying raid.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses of the attempted robbery, which happened at around 6.20am on Friday, June 20, at the Costcutter store in Orbital Crescent.

A man entered the shop and attempted to assault the member of staff with an iron bar resulting a brief struggle.

The man then left the store and got into a green ‘X’-plated Toyota Yaris. This vehicle was later found abandoned in Harris Road.

The driver was seen to run in the direction of Summerfield Road.

No items were stolen from the store and the iron bar was recovered by officers.

Detective Sergeant Ian Siggery is investigating the incident and said: "Thankfully the member of staff was not seriously injured but was understandably left shaken by what happened.

"We would like to identify the man pictured as he may be able to assist us with the investigation. The clothing worn is very distinctive and so if anyone believes they know the man’s identity or has any information in relation to this incident, please contact me immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Siggery via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference C4/14/1228. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
