Watford Observer: New community hub opened in north Watford New community hub opened in north Watford

A new community hub has been set up for residents of a north Watford cul-de-sac.

Residents of Edward Amey Close have been provided with a new meeting space for social events, neighbourhood meetings and a local lending library.

The hub was the vision of local resident Carol Fisken, who helped to set up Edward Amey Close and Cow Lane Residents’ Association in 2007.

Since then Carol and fellow resident Diane Spooner have been working closely with Watford Community Housing Trust to provide a permanent venue for the association to meet.

Carol said: "We really needed a permanent place.

"We had to prove that a building would be used, so Diane and I went around all the houses here and got the neighbours to support it. The trust listened and gave us this fantastic new hub. It’s really going to help us to go from strength to strength."

Tina Barnard, chief executive of Watford Community Housing Trust, said: "We’re delighted to provide the new hub for the local community. I have to congratulate Carol and Diane because they’ve never given up on making this happen. It shows that if you really believe in your community you can achieve great things."

Diane Spooner added: "We really pull together here, and if someone is ill or going through a bad time we rally round and support them. I think the new Hub is going to help us to be even stronger as a community."
