Traders and shoppers would be well advised to be on the lookout for forged one pound Treasury notes, five of which have turned up in this area during the past week.
Three were handed over to Bushey Police by a motorist who found them on Stanmore Common when he pulled up there on Sunday. Another was returned to a bank by a firm in Bushey and a fifth was found among cash at a garage and was handed over to Watford Police.
It is known that a large number of these forged notes are circulating in this country. Of the old design, they are at first sight quite deceptive but a more careful examination reveals the absence of water mark or the metal thread. Also, the serial numbers on those found at Stanmore were all identical.
