Mike Penning, the MP covering Kings Langley, has been promoted in the Government cabinet reshuffle.

The Conservative MP for Hemel Hempstead has been moved from his role as Minister of State for Disabled People and appointed as Minister of State for policing at the Home Office and Ministry of Justice.

The government has not clarified the exact nature of his new roles.

The news came as Prime Minister David Cameron embarked on a wide-reaching shake-up of his cabinet, which has seen former Conservative leader, William Hague, step down as Foreign Secretary.

Mr Penning, who has been the MP of the area since 2005, has already held a number of roles in the coalition government.

He was first promoted to Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport and in September 2012 he was promoted again to Minister of State for Northern Ireland.

In the reshuffle in October he was appointed as one of the Ministers of State for Work and Pensions.
