South West Herts MP David Gauke has been promoted Financial Secretary to the Treasury.

The Conservative has served as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, a role which gave him responsibility for the tax code, since the general election.

His new post will see him responsible for the UK’s input into EU budget and also the Royal Mint.

Mr Gauke, who has been MP for the area since 2005, was congratulated on his new role by Chancellor George Osborne, who said he was “very pleased” to see his underling promoted.
