A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a stolen car during a police chase through the streets of Chorleywood last week.

Two people were caught on Thursday after police used helicopters and cars to trace a stolen vehicle from Berkhamsted to Chorleywood following reports that it had been stolen at about 12.45pm.

Officers caught up with the driver and passenger in the stolen car at 1.26pm in Heronsgate Road, Chorleywood.

During the chase an officer was hit by the stolen car and was admitted to hospital.

Eugene Gunderman, 27, of Queens Close, in Old Windsor was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to steal, attempted robbery, driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Damon Denham, 27, of Kingbury Drive, in Old Windsor was charged with conspiracy to steal, attempted robbery and aiding and abetting dangerous driving.

The pair appeared at Hatfield remand court on Saturday and were remanded into custody.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said the officer has been discharged from hospital but received serious injuries that require further medical treatment.

A black Mercedes and a blue Land Rover were also damaged during the chase.

The driver of the Mercedes received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
