Films to be shown on the Big Screen in Watford Parade this summer include Wall-E, Mamma Mia! and The Lego Movie.

Nine films have been picked by Watford's Film Society to be shown in the town's temporary outdoor cinema as part of Watford Big Events series.

The features kick off for five consecutive days of entertainment on Wednesday, July 30, with Watford-made Sherlock Holmes (12) with curtain up scheduled for 8pm.

On Thursday, July 31, film enthusiasts can watch The Italian Job (PG) also starting at 8pm.

On Friday, Grease (PG) will be shown at 6pm and the Marilyn Monroe classic Some Like It Hot will be screened at 8pm.

Three films are scheduled for Saturday - Wall-E (U) at 4pm, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (12) at 6pm and Mamma Mia! (PG) at 8pm.

On Sunday The Lego Movie (U) will be shown at 4pm and finally Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (12) will be screened at 8pm.

Watford’s Film Society chose the line-up for their wide appeal and cinematic qualities, opening and closing with two blockbusters made in the town.

The films will be shown on a five-metre by five-metre screen  located in the events area at the top of The Parade.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: "Bring a rug and a picnic, and enjoy the unusual but fun experience of watching a film outside on The Parade. There’s a great mix of films with some real classics that should appeal to all ages."
