Residents will be able to discover the delights of a Maple Cross nature reserve when it opens its doors free of charge next weekend.

The Maple Lodge Nature Reserve’s Discovery Day will take place on Sunday, August 3 and will open at 11am with last admission being at 3.30pm.

This hidden gem is home to a variety of wildlife including waterfowl, woodland birds, bats and butterflies.

Throughout the day guided tours of the reserve will be organised by members of the Maple Lodge Conservation Society.

There are two lakes and many hides to explore around the reserve, some of which have wheelchair access.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Entry to the reserve and parking will be free of charge.

Keith Pursall, the society’s chairman, said: "We hope as many people as possible will take this opportunity to come and enjoy this secret sanctuary, especially those who have not visited Maple Lodge before."
