Managers from Asda at the Dome roundabout in Watford have helped refurbish a Christian community centre in the town.

Residents at Betel’s community home in Rickmansworth Road, Watford, raised £3,000 to renovate their home by bag packing at Asda and the store’s community Foundation doubled that sum with a donation of £3,500.

Senior managers form Asda, together with local staff and volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into paint bedrooms and toilets as well as replacing old furnishings and bedding.

The group worked alongside contractors City Facilities, which undertakes maintenance for Asda stores in the region. The company gave its time for free and installed new showers and toilets.

The Betel Watford building is used as a residential centre for men. Betel provide rehabilitation programmes for people with "broken backgrounds". There are currently 22 men in the property and a further seven women in another property run by this Betel centre.

Asda Watford community life champion Zoe Stewart said: "This was a brilliant example of everyone getting stuck in make something happen. There were no airs and graces, just a tremendous team effort in aid of a really worthwhile cause."

Zoe Fridd from Betel added: "We are truly grateful to everyone for giving us the fundraising opportunities at Asda.

"We don’t get any government funding so we have to rely on the generosity of others, as well as fundraising and our two charitable non-profit businesses. This ensures we can continue to help those in need that come through the doors of Betel."
