An event to commemorate the centenary of the Great War, highlighting the contribution and sacrifice made by members of Aldenham parish, will be held next month.

Local historian Brian Hyde will give a short narrative of the Hertfordshire Regiment and in particular Pte George Gregory, from Pegmire Lane, Patchetts Green.

George Gregory fought with distinction throughout the war, rising to the rank of Captain.

There will be a church service on Letchmore Heath green at midday, on Sunday, August 10.

The event will commence at 1pm with units undertaking  a short march through the village from Aldenham Memorial Hall to the service.

There will be poems from the trenches, a choir and a military presence including pipers, Gurkhas and serving members of the London Regiment.

A hundred foot long inflatable assault course will be on the green, with other various children's entertainment.

Cake, books and variety of other stalls including refreshments will also be present.
