Rickmansworth High Street will be closed for four weeks so lamp columns and bollards can be painted.

The main road will be shut between Monday, August 4 and Monday, September 1 from 7.30am to 5pm.

The scheduled work will take place in two stages.

The first is between North Way and Station Road, and will run between August 4 and August 20 and the second will be carried out between August 20 and September 1 in Wensum Way to Station Road.

The road will be closed but businesses will remain open.

Workmen will be reconstructing the worn out sections, including bus and parking bays. Lamp columns and bollards will be painted and all road markings refreshed.

A diversion route will be in place.

The work will be carried out by Ringway on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council.

It's being paid for out of the locality budget belonging to the Tory member for Rickmansworth, and being carried out by the Tory County Council. Seems nobody even mentioned to the local council this was happening, let alone residents, until yesterday.

Does anyone else think Rickmansworth High Street would be better if it was closed to traffic permanently and pedestrianized?

The mischief fairy has been at it again.

1 Its not just bollards and lamp posts its the road surface as well
2 The road surfaces have been marked up for over a week
3 Road works signs have ben up for well over a week
4 To close roads you have to apply for a licence from the local council
5 Mend or not to mend, damned if you do damned if you don't

Ask the traders, who will be most affected.
