The parents of a Bovingdon teenager are "extremely proud of their daughter" after she completed a 130 mile walk for charity.

Caitlin Filby, 17, returned to her family’s house in Chesham Road after spending eight days walking from the family’s other house in Heacham, Norfolk.

The pupil from Hemel Hempstead School started her journey in Heacham before making a series of stops at Kings Lynn, Downham Market, Ely, Huntingdon, Bedford and Luton.

The money raised by the walk will be split between two charities- Jessie’s Fund and Music Alive.

Caitlin, who has ambitions of teaching music after studying at university, organised the entire event herself, designing the route and booking the Travelodge’s at each of the stops.

Paula Filby, Caitlin’s mother said: "We are extremely proud of her. We are really proud and pleased that she has done something like this and it is something that she will take with her for the rest of her life.

"So far, she has raised £1,500, but it is still coming in.

"She has started to get people donate after seeing her page on Facebook and they are giving her money, people we don’t know, whereas before, it was just family, friends and school friends who were donating before."

Music Alive aims to improve access to music for disabled people and Jessie’s Fund helps seriously ill and disabled children to express themselves through music.

Originally, Caitlin was supposed to do the walk with a group of friends, but as the day approached, they began to drop out, meaning that the 17-year-old was due to complete the challenge on her own.

But since then, a number of family members and friends from Chesham Methodist Church accompanied Caitlin during different sections of the walk.

Paula added: "We have had lots of people text and call us.

"She is a very determined child when she puts her mind to something.

However, the 47 year-old told the Watford Observer that the third day was a particularly difficult day for Caitlin.

The teacher at Bovingdon Primary Academy added: "When she sat down, she said she said she wanted to be picked up in the car.

"My husband told her ‘you would not want that’ and she made it to the end of the day and she was fine the next day."

The 17-year-old was joined by her friends and family for the last leg of the event in Boxmoor. Together, they walked down Box Lane, the main road into Bovingdon from Hemel Hempstead.
