Rising levels of blue-green algae at the Aquadrome in Rickmansworth has led to the district council warning the public not to enter the water.

People are being advised not to enter Bury Lake, nor allow their dogs to swim there, due to the increased amount of algae.

Algae is a naturally occurring organism but the concentration found in the lake is such that it could pose a health threat if it is swallowed or in prolonged contact with the skin.

It is business as usual for the water sports which take place at the Aquadrome as precautions are in place to minimise the risk to participants.

The situation is being monitored by the council and any developments will be posted on the site information boards.
